Joey’s Cottage Preschool, at Moorebank, aims to help children learn early education by creating an engaging, nurturing, developmentally distinctive atmosphere. Since 1979, our purpose built, 8,000 sq. ft. center, has introduced over 30 years’ caring experience to prepare children 3 to 6 years for school with our successful focus on academic, social and emotional development.

We feel that a Joey’s Cottage Preschool is a warm, family environment where it is like ‘home away from home’. It is vital to this setting as it is in fostering a child’s confidence, curiosity and creativity, and that is what our wonderful staff do, making each child feel safe, valued and most importantly, comfortable as they learn and grow. It gives the children the opportunities to speak out, ask questions and look around. Joey’s Cottage has our educators who know a shade of knowledge with their enthusiasm in early childhood education. Literacy and Numeracy Grand Band
Early literacy and early math are very important foundations to academic learning. In fun, interactive activities, we incorporate these skills into our preschool at Joey’s Cottage Preschool. Our literacy program includes storytelling, songs and simple reading skills, to aid children in developing language skills, vocabulary and comprehension of our words. Then we use our numeracy, as we learn about counting, sorting, and pattern recognition to develop more complex mathematical thinking.
We teach these foundational skills in a fun and engaging way, fostering kids’ willingness to learn that will follow them into their formal school years.
Social and Emotional skills development
It isn’t just about teaching kids how to read and do math at school, it is also about being able to communicate with your peers, follow a routine, and manage your emotions. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is something we really focus on when it comes to SEL and Joey’s Cottage works hard to teach children these important skills. Through group activities, collaborative play, and guided social interactions children will learn to share, communicate, and resolve conflicts in a positive way.
Our teachers help children see their feelings at all levels, and understand others’ feelings and perspectives, and develop friendships. These cases aid children’s development of emotional intelligence, which is the foundation for creating a positive learning environment and fostering lifelong interpersonal skills.
Praising and Encouraging Independence and Self Confidence
Independence becomes more important as children get ready for school. You’ll find at Joey’s Cottage that we ask children to take on small responsibilities, make choices and complete small tasks all themselves. Whether it’s stowing toys, making a game, or rounding up personal belongings, these common tasks train kids in self reliability and self esteem.
Along with this, we also stressed a ‘growth mindset’- that challenges and errors are a part of learning. When we celebrate their efforts and the progress they make, they get the positive attitude toward learning that will help them as they face new challenges in school.
Collaborating with Families Toward a Seamless Transition to School
This is a major and important transitional event for our families, and we work closely with them to help each child achieve a smooth, positive transition. But we keep parents informed and involved in their child’s development through regular updates, meetings and events. Working in partnership with parents, we create a consistent support system that reinforces what children are learning at preschool and helps get them ready and excited for their next step.
